is a peaceful retreat for women who have chosen to escape abuse and homelessness and recover from undue struggle.
Together we provide a loving and supportive family dynamic and all the tools necessary that allow them to start over and be empowered to live independently and successfully.
Through our Life Skills program we foster growth, renew faith, establish trust, form meaningful and long term positive relationships, develop skills and talents, land careers, master budgeting and time management, develop healthy and loving parenting skills and instill a sense of pride that allows the women of Living Hope to walk out a little taller than when they came in. We are Family.
In an old church parsonage, Living Hope started in 2004 from a dream and desire to help homeless women and children.
Living Hope could only house three women and their children in that old parsonage but today, between two sites, we can house 26 women and their children for up to a year at a time. In nine short years, Living Hope has provided the support which has helped over 130 women and children reach self-sufficiency.
Cindy Smith experienced domestic violence in her first marriage and then had many obstacles to overcome as a single mom, one of which was abuse from her childhood. God’s healing power from the abuse and His plan for her life lead her to found Living Hope Transitional Homes.
Soon after getting remarried, Cindy worked at area homeless shelters and saw firsthand that homeless mothers often lacked the long term support system necessary to achieve healing from past wounds and to achieve self-sufficiency. Cindy realized, once she was healed from her own abuse, that the problem of not dealing with the pain of abuse is that it affects the very core of your being. You quite literally can't become "who" God created you to be until you face the truth and walk back through the pain and allow God to heal you.
Therefore, Living Hope is committed to helping each resident find healing and wholeness in Christ while building a foundation of life skills that will improve the quality of our families for a lifetime.
